Grameen Phone has launched “AppCity,” the country’s inaugural cross-platform app marketplace. This groundbreaking initiative aims to revolutionize the digital sphere by facilitating connectivity between app developers and consumers, thereby promoting innovation and accessibility in Bangladesh’s journey towards becoming a “Smart Bangladesh.”

The launch event, held at a Dhaka hotel on Tuesday, was graced by Zunaid Ahmed Palak MP, State Minister of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance were key figures including Petter-Børre Furberg, Chairman of Grameen Phone Ltd. and Head of Telenor Asia, along with Yasir Azman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Grameen Phone, and other senior management personnel.

“AppCity” marks a significant milestone in Grameen Phone’s telco-tech endeavors, serving as a unified platform offering a diverse array of applications and Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions. Functioning as both an App Store and API hub, this marketplace seamlessly connects content providers and developers with individual and corporate clients. Notably, it boasts built-in Android, iOS, and telco API capabilities, making it the pioneering cross-platform app marketplace in Bangladesh. Its intuitive UI also facilitates app development for non-coders, akin to established platforms in the market.

Setting itself apart, “AppCity” is the first comprehensive B2B app marketplace in Bangladesh, featuring expert ratings alongside user reviews. Additionally, it integrates seamlessly with Mobile Financial Services (MFS) and offers diverse payment channels, enhancing accessibility for all users.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak MP, State Minister, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, commended Grameen Phone for its innovative endeavor, stating, “”AppCity” signifies a significant stride towards a smarter future for Bangladesh, aligning with our national aspirations. By fostering innovation, this platform creates diverse opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs, contributing to the realization of a ‘Smart Bangladesh.'”

Petter-Børre Furberg, Chairman of Grameen Phone and Head of Telenor Asia, expressed delight in Grameen Phone’s role in developing “AppCity,” emphasizing its potential to enrich the digital experience for consumers and businesses alike. This initiative underscores Grameen Phone’s commitment to advancing Bangladesh’s technological landscape.
