About Us

As of March 2025, the United States Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, continues to engage in various initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations and support democratic processes.

Visa Services Update

In February 2025, the U.S. Embassy introduced a new system for U.S. Visa Services, effective from February 8. This update aims to streamline the application process and enhance efficiency. Applicants are advised to visit the official embassy website for detailed information and guidance on the new procedures.

Diplomatic Engagements

Following the 2024 general elections in Bangladesh, the U.S. Department of State expressed concerns regarding the electoral process, stating that the elections were neither free nor fair. The U.S. emphasized the importance of democratic principles and urged the Bangladeshi government to address these concerns to ensure future electoral integrity.

Leadership Transition

Peter D. Haas, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh from March 2022 to July 2024, concluded his tenure in mid-2024. Helen LaFave is currently serving as the acting ambassador. The embassy continues its mission under her leadership, focusing on fostering strong ties between the United States and Bangladesh.

Public Engagement

The U.S. Embassy remains committed to public engagement, exemplified by the inauguration of a new American Corner in Sylhet. This initiative aims to provide resources and information to the public, promoting cultural exchange and educational opportunities.
